The headbanging is over

Okay, so I’ve been dealing with a lot of frustration over the streaming software OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) for the past 7-8 months — from issues of using too much CPU to crashing to plugins like the browser one not working, videos not loading, etc. It’s been quite the ride.

All this time, I’ve been using macOS as my streaming server OS (I’ve used 3 different machines) and they’ve all had similar issues. I originally decided to use macOS as it’s a stable OS, known for great audio support and easy for me to script. Well, I decided to give up on macOS and try Windows 10.

OMG!! I can’t believe how WELL the OBS Studio software runs on Windows. CPU usage is low, plugins are working, no crashes — the app is really responsive. It’s like night and day. So, all the problems I’ve been having are related to the macOS version of OBS.

So, now we’re on Windows 10, I have a lot of work to do with reworking the scripts, re-setup OBS with its titles, visuals and other configurations. I also have to work on new automations for the titles as well. We’ve run 2 shows on the new server and they both ran without a hiccup.

So, here’s to seeing where we go from here… less headbanging, that’s for sure.
